Welcome to the inaugural edition of Your Weekly America First Insight, a new series delivering a concise roundup of the past week’s political developments. Published every Monday for members and Tuesday for non-members, this column will also provide updates on significant shifts in our Election Model. This week, we cover the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, key policy announcements, and emerging electoral trends, reflecting the pulse of the America First agenda.
The week’s headline story is the narrow passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill in the House, squeaking through with a 215-214-1 vote. House Freedom Caucus Leader Andy Harris voted “present,” while two Republicans joined every Democrat in opposing the measure. The bill, a cornerstone of President Trump’s domestic agenda, now faces a challenging path in the Senate. Two factions of Senate GOP resistance have emerged: conservatives like Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Ron Johnson push for deeper spending cuts, including expanding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) measures and restricting Medicaid access for illegals—proposals likely to resonate with the GOP base. Meanwhile, moderates like Thom Tillis of North Carolina oppose the bill’s elimination of Biden-era green energy tax credits, citing economic impacts in their states. President Trump remains confident, urging Senate Republicans to refine the bill, pass it, and return it to the House. In a related development, the No Tax on Tips bill sailed through the Senate unanimously, fulfilling a key Trump campaign promise.
In defense policy, President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the American Golden Dome, a missile defense system modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome, designed to protect the U.S. homeland from potential attacks. The Department of Defense projects the system will be operational before the end of Trump’s term, signaling a bold step toward enhancing national security. Additionally, Trump confirmed plans for a military parade in Washington, D.C., to mark the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army on June 14, 2025, coinciding with his 79th birthday. Organizers are planning nationwide events to celebrate this milestone, showcasing America’s military heritage.
Economic patriotism scored a victory with Trump’s announcement that U.S. Steel will remain in American hands, bolstering domestic industry. On the immigration front, Representative Monica McIver faces charges of assaulting an ICE officer after trespassing at an ICE facility, an incident captured on video. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called the charges “crossing a red line". Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee launched a $20 million initiative to recapture young male voters through viral videos and video game advertisements, only time will tell if this will work, but in our opinion, it won't.
In electoral developments, our newly launched Virginia Governor Polling Aggregate shows Democrat Abigail Spanberger leading by approximately 5 points, consistent with our current modeling. In New Jersey’s 2025 Governor Primary, Jack Ciattarelli holds a lead in the GOP primary, while Mikie Sherrill is emerging as the frontrunner in the Democratic primary, gaining momentum in a crowded field.
