How Wyoming's Primary Election Works

Wyoming uses a semi-closed primary election system. Voters registered with a political party may only vote in that party's primary. Unaffiliated voters may participate by affiliating with a political party before or on primary election day. However, voters who are already affiliated with a political party generally cannot switch their party affiliation immediately before the primary because Wyoming imposes a party-change deadline.

Wyoming does not hold primary runoff elections. Candidates only need to receive a plurality of the vote to win their party's nomination, meaning the candidate with the most votes advances to the November general election even if they do not receive an outright majority.
