How the Mississippi 2026 Primary Election Works
Mississippi uses a partisan primary system where voters choose either the Republican or Democratic ballot. Voters may only participate in one party’s primary. The winner of each primary advances to the general election in November 2026.
Runoff Elections
If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in a primary contest, Mississippi law requires a runoff election between the top two candidates. Mississippi runoff elections are typically held several weeks after the initial primary.
What Happens After the Primary?
Primary winners become their party’s official nominees for the November general election. Live results on this page update in real time as counties across Mississippi report vote totals.
